Danang holds rescue drill on Son Tra Peninsula

Police and rescue forces in Danang City on May 20 conducted an emergency rescue drill on Son Tra Peninsula simulating landslides and drowning incidents involving tourists.

The exercise took place at Bai Trem beach near Linh Ung Pagoda, where a mock scenario involved a tourist falling about seven metres down a rocky cliff after a landslide and losing consciousness due to multiple injuries.

More than 40 firefighters and rescue personnel were deployed along with specialised vehicles, ambulances and water rescue equipment.

After locating the victim below the cliff, rescue workers used ropes and a stretcher to reach and safely evacuate the injured tourist from the steep terrain.

A second scenario involved several tourists being swept away by strong currents while swimming at sea.

Rescue teams used life jackets, lifebuoys and rescue ropes to approach victims in the water, while underwater rescue units conducted diving operations to search for missing people.

Victims were given first aid onshore before being transferred to medical teams for emergency treatment.

Officials said the drill aimed to improve rescue coordination and emergency response capabilities in hazardous terrain and coastal areas frequently visited by tourists on Son Tra Peninsula.
