Ho Chi Minh City speeds up health checks in nine areas

HCM City has accelerated a large-scale public health screening programme across nine communes and special zones, aiming to complete most examinations within the second quarter.

The city’s Department of Health said the campaign, running from May 22 to the end of June, was among the first major efforts to implement the goal of providing every resident with at least one health check-up each year.

The programme prioritises children under 18 who have not yet received school health checks during the 2025-2026 academic year, informal workers and elderly residents.

Fifteen hospitals and regional health centres have been mobilised to support local medical stations in conducting examinations and improving screening capacity.

For adults, examinations will include blood and urine tests, electrocardiograms and chest X-rays to help detect non-communicable diseases and other underlying health conditions.

Children will undergo nutritional assessments, physical development checks, vision screening, dental and ear-nose-throat examinations, mental health evaluations and school health consultations.

Mobile medical teams will also be deployed to remote and island areas to improve access to healthcare services.

Authorities said all examination results would be uploaded to the city’s digital health management system and integrated with electronic health records and the VNeID digital health platform within 24 hours.

The nine pilot localities include An Nhon Tay, Ba Diem, Hiep Phuoc, Tan Nhut, Thanh An, Bac Tan Uyen, Dat Do, Ho Tram and Con Dao.

The pilot programme is expected to serve as a basis for expanding universal health screening citywide in the future.
