More than 300 people take part in Noi Bai airport security drill

More than 300 officers, soldiers and airport staff joined an emergency security drill at Noi Bai International Airport on May 21, simulating a public disturbance inside a passenger terminal.

The exercise, led by Noi Bai International Airport border police under the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Department, involved 22 vehicles and multiple security and aviation units.

The scenario simulated crowds gathering and causing disorder at a check-in area after prolonged bad weather led to flight delays and cancellations.

According to the script, around 10 individuals exploited passengers’ frustration to incite unrest and livestream the incident on social media in an attempt to destabilise the situation.

Security forces quickly moved in to contain and detain the suspects before securing the area and restoring airport operations.

The drill was conducted in two phases: initial response and post-incident recovery.

The exercise aimed to assess combat readiness, command coordination and the ability of different forces to respond to complex security situations involving aviation and immigration control.

Authorities also called for stronger use of technology, including upgrades to surveillance camera systems and emergency response planning, to improve preparedness for real-life incidents.
