The incident occurred around 5 pm on April 24 in Van Ho District’s Long Luong and Xuan Nha communes. Plums, cabbage and strawberry crops were damaged.

This was the second hailstorm in Son La since early this year.

The locality is assessing the losses caused, said a representative from Van Ho District.

"The locals said they have never witnessed such a large hailstorm before."

On the same day, Mu Cang Chai District in Yen Bai also witnessed a hailstorm.

The northern region of Vietnam would face hot weather during the coming Reunification Day (April 30) and May 1 holiday, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
