Dao Trung Chinh, Deputy Director General Department of Land Management under MNRE announced a number of decisions on land use issues.

Households or individuals that are engaging in agriculture, aquaculture or forestry activities will have their land use rights extended for an additional 20 years upon request. Households which own farmland in areas where they do not reside will have to go through a procedure to receive the extension.

Chinh said, “Permission to use farmland will be granted only to households or individuals that actually use the land for agricultural activities. Agricultural land that is used for other purposes will be confiscated. The Government will also give the extension in cases of land consolidation.”

According to Chinh, the circular on land use will be issued by October 15, 2013, before the current 20 year land use contract expires for farmers.

Concerning the land withdrawal case of Doan Van Vuon, Deputy Head of MNRE’s Policy and Legislation Department Bui Sy Dung said that the ministry will send a document to Prime Minister on settlement of Doan Van Vuon case and other households which have been allocated farmland in Tien Lang.

“Each case will be reviewed carefully.” He said.
