Four people are killed in a house fire which was allegedly caused by votive paper burning in Hanoi on February 4.
According to a report from police at Dong Da District, the accident occurred at a rented house on Tam Khuong Street where four university students aged 24 of Thuy Loi University stayed.
On the morning of February 4, they organised the traditional Kitchen Gods' ceremony and invited a friend to come for the party.
At 12pm, they burned votive paper as offerings to the Kitchen Gods in front of the house and then had lunch inside the house.
After lunch, four of them slept inside the house while the other went outside, locking the front gate.
The house fire was seen on fire at around 2pm and the four men were found dead inside when rescue forces arrived.
Initial investigations showed that the house fire was caused by votive paper burning and the four men died from suffocation.
