Heavy rain and flooding have hit several provinces in the northwest region, destroying hundreds of houses and killing at least 7 people.
Floods and landslide blocked some key routes including National Highway 6 and 12. Small bridges that connect remote villages with the Thanh Hung Commune's center in Dien Bien Province has been swept away.
Water levels at many rivers are rising; the Thuong has risen to 5.8m and Luc Nam River is at 6.1m. The total of rainfall after 12 hours in Sapa reached 90mm, 110mm in Bac Giang's Son Dong District and 130mm in Quang Ninh's Tien Yen District.
Mountainous provinces face high risk of landslide, including Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Ha Giang and Lao Cai.
It is forecast rain will continue until August 4.
