Fire destroys riverside homes in Ca Mau

A night-time fire has destroyed around 10 homes and shacks belonging to eight households in Ca Mau, with no casualties reported, authorities said on March 25.

The blaze broke out at about 1.30 am in Vam Dam Hamlet, Tan Tien Commune, after residents heard a loud explosion, followed by flames spreading rapidly from one house to nearby properties.

Local forces, along with fire and rescue police and support from neighbouring communes, worked to contain the fire, which was extinguished after more than two hours.

Most of the affected structures were temporary homes made of wood with corrugated iron roofs, contributing to the rapid spread of the blaze.

Authorities are assessing damage and investigating the cause. Each affected household will receive VND 3 million (about USD 117) in initial support, while local officials coordinate site clearance and relocation efforts.
