After inspections, the MOF pointed out that Euro Auto Corporation (EAC), the official BMW importer in Vietnam, committed violations in the import of completely built-up (CBU) cars.
The importer purchased BMW cars without permission or customs clearance from the customs authorities and did not provide certificates of origin (C/O) and documents related to the BMW automobiles imported into Vietnam. The importer was accused of using fake purchase contracts to import BMWs.
In a press release on November 30, EAC responded the MOF’s accusations and said that it answered all the questions of the MOF and stressed legal compliance and transparency in its financial report and tax requirements.
“We reaffirmed that Euro Auto Corporation has always complied with the laws of the State of Vietnam and toward its customers’ interests,” the EAC noted. “In case our explanations are not accepted by the MOF, we will require the assistance and intervention of other competent authorities in order to protect the rights and legitimate interests of businesses and customers.”
The Ministry of Finance, meanwhile, asked the General Department of Customs, in collaboration with the Institute of the Supreme People's Procuracy, to prosecute EAC.
From 2014 up until last year, Euro Auto Corporation’s profit had increased by 40 per cent. They were able to do this with the three brands it distributes in Vietnam. Its consumer satisfaction index has reached over 97 per cent.
BMW sales saw impressive results, with three new models introduced in the luxury class: BMW X6 Sport Activity Coupe, the BMW Series 2 Active Tourer, and the BMW Series 6 Gran Coupe. The BMW Series 1 and BMW X1 Sport Activity Vehicle also attracted many customers. The BMW Series 3, with 320i and 330i engine options, was a major contributor to Euro Auto’s business results.
The Mini also had an impressive 2015. The opening of the first Mini showroom in Ho Chi Minh City brought customer closers to the popular brand. In 2016 Euro Auto will introduce two new models - Mini Clubman and Mini Convertible. Motorrad also won favor among customers, with 12 models in four classes having been sold.
