Nguyen Thi Hop receives donation from readers

Le Thi Choet and her daughter, Nguyen Thi Hop, are living in a small house in Dau Ben Village, Nam Sach District. Choet is 93 years old and suffers from cancer while her daughter is disabled. Hop said she had a headache and high fever when she was working on the field at 17 years old. After that, she couldn't feel her legs anymore.

Hop's brother also died years ago and her two sisters got married in other villages and can't help them much.Hop and her mother live on the monthly allowance for old people and disabled people.

After their story was published, thousands of people have called and visited them.

"I've never travelled in my whole life. This time, I even received an overseas call. He said he read about my situation so he called to encourage us and sent us some gifts. Some people that live hundreds of kilometres away also visited us," Hop said.

The readers also donated VND82,390,000 via Dantri Newspaper to Hop and her mother.

Hop thanked everyone that helped her, saying that she will use the money wisely to treat her mother.

"I don't know how long she will stay with me. You have helped us face the hardships, we'll never forget it," she said.
