The Government chief lauded the information and communications sector for its achievements in 2009 in five areas, namely press, publishing, post, telecommunications and IT.

Especially, after the program on public utility telecommunication services by 2010 has been implemented for five years, the density of fixed phones quadrupled, and Internet coverage surged 18 times, reaching 22.47 million users.

As evaluated by numerous international organizations, in 2009, Vietnam was one of few countries maintaining fast growth rates and bettering global IT competitiveness index.

Regarding the ICT sector’s missions in 2010, the PM called on the MIC to perfect legal framework, policies, strategies and projects on IT development; early finalize and submit to the Government for approval the project on turning Vietnam into a powerful ICT country; speed up IT application in administrative management and e-Government; and enhance journalism development.
