Across construction sites, workers have been deployed to dismantle ageing pavements and install new ones. Although the works have temporarily disrupted pedestrian movement, authorities said construction would be completed swiftly to restore safer and more convenient walking spaces.

“With a total investment of more than VND 442 billion (about USD 16.8 million), the pavement upgrade programme covers 91 streets and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025,” the Department of Construction said. Some projects will be carried over into 2026 to ensure consistent standards and quality.

Pavement revamp works are also under way on Vo Van Tan Street in Xuan Hoa Ward, where old sections are being removed to improve pedestrian space.

A foreign tourist welcomed the initiative, saying the upgrades would make the city cleaner, safer and more appealing, especially during the Tet holiday, when visitor numbers typically surge.

City officials said the project reflects Ho Chi Minh City’s broader efforts to modernise urban infrastructure and create a more civilised, pedestrian-friendly environment ahead of the Tet Holiday.
