On Thursday, the HCM City Eye Hospital took the samples of 39 adult and child patients for the joint Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) lab for testing.
According to the testing result, up to 86 percent of the patients were infected by Enterovirus, meanwhile the remainder was hit by Adenovirus.
The patients are both male and female and from different southern localities, including Binh Duong, Long An, Tien Giang and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
According to the municipal Department of Health, HCM City recorded a total of 71,740 cases of pink eye in the first eight months of this year, a significant rise against the same period of last year.
The disease reached its peak in the city in 2013 and then subsided in the following years before this year’s outbreak.
