The hospital operated by Hanoi Medical University Hospital was set up in September with 500 beds to provide treatment for Covid-19 patients in severe and critical conditions and technical support for other Covid-19 medical facilities in the assigned areas. After the city’s Covid-19 cases sharply dropped, the hospital beds were reduced.
But, since early December, Hanoi’s new Covid-19 infections have surpassed 400 per day. So the hospital has suggested raising its total bed number to 300, said Associate Prof. Hoang Bui Hai, deputy director of the hospital.
After being expanded, it would become Hanoi’s first three-tiered Covid-19 treatment hospital to serve all patients ranging from being asymptomatic to those in critical condition. This is expected to help ease the pressure on local hospitals.
According to Hai, the hospital now has 100 medical staff.
Since April 29, Hanoi has confirmed a total of 15,255 Covid-19 cases including 5,847 locally-infected patients. The city reported 822 new infections on Thursday.
