Torrential rain occurred since 7 pm on Monday have caused serious flooding in the cities of Song Cong and Pho Yen in Thai Nguyen.

The National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting announced on Tuesday morning that Pho Yen City recorded total rainfall of 197.40mm during heavy rain between 2 pm on June 10 and 2 am on June 11.

By early Tuesday morning, many streets in Pho Yen and Song Cong cities were between 20-40cm under water.

Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews on Tuesday morning, the chairman of Pho Yen City People's Committee said that flood water was decreasing and vehicles can travel easily on local streets.

In the neighbouring province of Cao Bang, flash floods triggered by downpours between June 9-10 submerged and damaged 40 houses and many roads in Bao Lam and Bao Lac districts. Several households had to be evacuated.

The chairman of Bao Lam District People's Committee, Ma Gia Hanh, said that they had asked local rescue teams and residents in flood prone areas to closely watch out for and prepare to deal with possible landslides.

In Ha Giang Province, three people died in flash floods on Monday.

The floods have also damaged nearly 360 houses, and lots of roads and crops, with estimated losses of about VND9.50 billion.
