Buddha’s hand fruits symbolise good fortune for every family when Tet comes.
Tran Thi Tuyen is now concentrating on harvesting around 400 Buddha’s hand trees. This year’s favourable weather has helped her family have a bumper crop.
According to Tuyen, each Buddha’s hand fruit is mostly sold for between VND20,000-200,000 (0.84-8.41), depending on different kinds.
The Buddha’s hand fruit can be stored for up to 3-5 months. Ones that are kept longer have better fragrance and appearance.
Growers have to keep closed eyes on the weather condition to take care of Buddha’s hand trees, Tuyen added.
It takes the trees around two years to provide fruit. The life cycle of the trees is only 5-6 years, so, the land used for growing them needs to be fertilized.
