On August 27, Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee said they had recorded over 86,000 infection cases, and may record 50,000 more infections in the next two weeks.

A plan has been built for a scenario of 150,000 Covid-19 patients but cannot be realised due to the limited budget, the committee said.

Local authorities have asked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to provide financial support of over VND7.6trn to prepare for the plan. In case of emergency, Binh Duong should be allowed cut down on the budget for public development investment in 2021 to have more for the Covid-19 fight.

Binh Duong is facing many difficulties with screen tests and quarantining Covid-19 patients. As a result, the virus has spread among many factory workers in the area.

The provincial authorities said they were overloaded and lacked personnel. They have asked the Ministry of Health to send more health workers to help and allocate vaccines for two million people living in high-risk areas.
