| A new storm is likely to move toward Vietnam |
A depression strengthened into a tropical low pressure system in the northern part of the East Sea on August 27 and is likely to gain strength in a day’s time.
At 13.00 pm the system was 530km southeast of the Hoang Sa archipelago, with winds gusting up to category 7, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.
In the next 24 hours, the system is forecast to move between west and northwest at a speed of 10-15kph and strengthen into a storm.
In its dispatch on August 27, the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control asked coastal provinces from Ba Ria-Vung Tau to Quang Ninh to be well prepared for the tropical low pressure system.
It asked the provinces to inform vessel owners of the course of the system and avoid the danger areas.
