Additional 173,631 more Covid-19 infections reported on Friday

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Friday reported an additional 173,631 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 4.05 million.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Friday reported an additional 173,631 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 4.05 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (21,395), Nghe An (6,657), Bac Ninh (6,011), Son La (4,182), and Quang Ninh (3,919). Two northern provinces of Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh today also added 29,074, and 18,970 new infections respectively to the national tally.

As of Friday evening, 4,051,832 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country last April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (545,057), Hanoi (340,443), Binh Duong (304,810), Dong Nai (119,444), and Tay Ninh (102,004).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 4,059,262. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On March 4, an additional 38,911 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,589,436.

On Friday evening, a further 97 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,644. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (18), Nam Dinh (14), Quang Nam (9), Nghe An (6), Thai Nguyen (6), and Danang (5).

Vietnam on March 3 administered 645,805 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 196.32 million.
