Heavy rain forecast for of central Vietnam

Parts of central Vietnam are forecast to see heavy rain in the coming days, while northern Vietnam will remain largely sunny, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

On September 7, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected from southern Thanh Hoa to Hue and parts of the south-central coast, with heavy rain possible in some areas, mainly in the afternoon.

Rain is forecast to become more widespread and intense across central Vietnam in the coming days.

From September 10-16, areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the south-central coast could see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with locally heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are also forecast to see showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain, particularly in the afternoon and evening. Heavy to very heavy rain is possible in some areas from September 10-12.

Meanwhile, northern Vietnam will be mostly sunny on September 7, with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. More widespread rain is possible around September 9-10.

Thunderstorms may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

Some weather models indicate that a tropical disturbance could develop along the Intertropical Convergence Zone around mid-September and potentially strengthen into a storm over the East Sea. However, the long-range forecast remains uncertain.

The weather agency has yet to issue an official forecast confirming the formation of the season's sixth storm.
