An additional 12,674 more Covid-19 infections was confirmed in Vietnam on Monday and Hanoi continued to report the highest number with over 2,700 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 12,637 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,728), Danang (877), Bac Ninh (781), Hai Phong (552), and Nam Dinh (474). There were 37 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 1,019 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 8,517 infections found in the community.
As of Monday evening, 2,268,708 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (513,892), Binh Duong (292,879), Hanoi (131,518), Dong Nai (99,889), and Tay Ninh (88,179). Vietnam has so far confirmed 185 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,275,727. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 31, an additional 4,835 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,022,450.
On Monday evening, a further 109 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,777. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (20), Vinh Long (8 ), Hau Giang (6), Kien Giang (6), and Tay Ninh (6).
Vietnam on January 30 administered 159,885 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 181.28 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.13 million people having received two doses.
