According to the ministry's report, 16 out of 56 locally-transmitted cases were detected at the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. The hospital has stopped receiving new in-patients since May 5 to conduct Covid-19 tests for all staff members, patients, and patients' caregivers. At least 2,600 people have been found to have come into contact with the new Covid-19 patients from this hospital.

40 other patients who have also been infected in the community include 11 from Vinh Phuc Province, five from Thai Binh Province, 12 from Bac Ninh Province, four in Hanoi, three in Danang City, two in Hung Yen Province, and one each in Hai Duong, Lang Son, and Quang Ngai provinces.

Four imported patients are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from Japan and the UAE. They were sent to quarantine areas in Hanoi, Khanh Hoa and Ha Tinh provinces for Covid-19 prevention upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,090, including 1,690 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on May 6, a total of 2,560 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, nearly 41,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
