400 taxis will be used to transport patients in Ho Chi Minh City

The department said it was necessary as the city had applied social distancing and taxis and app-based car services were already temporarily stopped.

According to deputy director of the municipal Department of Health, Nguyen Hoai Nam, there are over 100 hospitals in the city and some have big demand for taxis.

The taxis have been required to strictly follow virus prevention regulations including ensuring distance between drivers and patients and disinfecting the vehicles after each trip. They will not stop to pick up passengers on the streets.

Passengers are advised to pay by card via VNPAY-QR installed on the taxis.

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have suspended taxis and app-based car services since June 20 as one of various measures to contain the widespread coronavirus spread that has so far infected over 2,000 people citywide.

In April last year, the city also used 200 taxis for patient transportation during the social distancing period.
