As many as 12 people were killed and 11 others injured in 18 traffic accidents that occurred nationwide on the first day of the Lunar New Year Festival, according to the Traffic Police Department.

The figures showed a decrease of three fatalities and two accidents against last year's numbers while the injuries recorded stayed the same, the department said. All the accidents occurred on roads while there were no accidents on waterways and railways.
Since the first day of the Lunar New Year Holiday that started on January 26, the traffic police have dealt with a total of 1,308 traffic violations, seizing seven cars, 584 motorbikes and 57 driving licenses.
