Speaking at a conference on staff training for Long Thanh International Airport held on Wednesday morning, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Chairman, Vo Tan Duc, said the airport was expected to serve 25 million passengers annually during the first phase of operation in 2026.
"We’ll need approximately 14,000 staff including 5,000 employees with university degrees or higher and 2,000 manual workers to operate the airport in 2026," Dong Nai chairman told the meeting which was attended by representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, and 25 training centres for airport staff.
According to a representative from the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, most planes flying over 1,000 kilometres will be parked at Long Thanh Airport, so the airport will need a proper team to do additional maintenance.
Nguyen Hong Linh, secretary of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, said they had assigned 1,000 hectares of land to build high-quality training centres for Long Thanh Airport staff.

"We'll give priority to local people affected by construction to receive training and have the opportunity to work at the airport," the official said.
Chairman of the Vietnam Aviation Academy, Tran Hoai An, told the meeting that they have taken more students to prepare for the operation of Long Thanh Airport since 2020.
"We'’ll have 200 graduates for airport work every year," he said.
Located in the southern province of Dong Nai, Long Thanh International Airport would be Vietnam's largest airport with an area of 5,364 hectares. With a total investment of some USD16 billion, the airport is expected to serve up to 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo annually. The government has targeted to operate the first flights at Long Thanh in 2026 with a total capacity of 25 million passengers annually during the first phase.
