According to a report from the Ministry of Public Security, the first day of the holiday saw 47 accidents with 27 deaths while the second day saw 53 accidents, leaving 25 dead.
These figures showed a fall in the number of accidents (by 63) , fatalities (by 34) and injuries (by 46) compared to the same period last year, the report said.
Traffic police nation-wide dealt with 16,725 violation cases, seizing 114 cars, 5033 motorbikes, and 169 other vehicles; revoking nearly 1,000 driving licenses.
Serious traffic jams occurred on some main roads connecting the country's two biggest cities of Hanoi and HCM City and neighbouring provinces on January 24 and 25 when people started returning home for Tet holiday. However, the situation improved on January 26.
