“All foreign research and survey activities within Vietnam’s EEZ and continental shelf established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) without the country’s consent are violations of its sovereignty and jurisdiction,” said spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang.

Hang was speaking at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on July 3 in response to reporters’ questions regarding recent reports of unauthorized survey operations by Chinese vessels within Vietnam’s EEZ.

Vietnamese authorities are closely monitoring developments in the East Sea and are implementing measures in line with both international law and Vietnamese law to safeguard the country’s legitimate rights and interests, she further said.
