The tragic accident occurred when the vehicles were running along a mountainous road in Nguyen Binh District at 5.45 am on September 9. A passenger bus carrying over 20 people, two cars and several motorbikes was buried or swept away when a powerful flash flood accompanied by a considerable amount of rocks and soil fell onto the road.

More than 30 people were reported dead or missing in the accident, including two local police officers.

A rescue team of over 500 members was sent to the site, but their work has faced many difficulties as more landslides continue amid heavy rain in the area.

Rescue forces are still trying to look for some 15 more people who remain missing at the site.

As of 11 pm on September 11, the death and missing toll caused by Typhoon Yagi and flash floods and landslides in several northern localities rose to 326 people, including 181 dead and 145 missing, according to reports from local authorities. More than 800 others had been injured.
