The 10.84-kilometre line includes 1.94 kilometres of elevated track and 8.9 kilometres underground. It will feature 10 stations, two elevated and eight underground, along major streets such as Hang Giay, Dong Xuan, Hang Duong, Hang Ngang, and Hang Dao.

Key stations include Xuan Dinh (C1), Ngoai Giao Doan (C2), Tay Ho Tay (C3), Buoi (C4), Quan Ngua (C5), Bach Thao (C6), Ho Tay (C7), Hang Dau (C8), Hoan Kiem (C9), and Tran Hung Dao (C10).

Classified as a national key infrastructure project, the line is funded by ODA loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) combined with counterpart capital from Hanoi’s budget, with total investment estimated at VND 35.68 trillion (approximately USD 1.35 billion).

The project also includes the 11.3-hectare Xuan Dinh Depot, which will serve as the hub for maintenance, repair, and operations training. Unlike other depots, Xuan Dinh will be developed under a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model, integrating transport infrastructure with smart and sustainable urban planning.

The Nam Thang Long-Tran Hung Dao section will play a vital role in Hanoi’s 15-line metro network, linking the city’s political centre in Ba Dinh District with the historic Hoan Kiem area, and connecting to future Metro Lines 1, 3, and 5. A future extension will link the line to Noi Bai International Airport.

Construction is scheduled for completion by 2029. This is Hanoi’s third metro project, following the Cat Linh-Ha Dong and Nhon-Hanoi Station lines.

Under the capital’s Transport Master Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050, Hanoi aims to develop 15 metro lines and sections with a combined length of about 619 kilometres.
