Urgent search underway for crocodile after attack in Khanh Hoa

Authorities in Dien Lam Commune, in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, are conducting an urgent search for an escaped crocodile that attacked and injured a local man.

According to Le Van Hiep, chairman of Dien Lam Commune, rising and muddy river water has hampered efforts to track the animal. Search teams have narrowed down the area where the crocodile, weighing between 20 and 30 kilogrammes, is believed to be hiding and are working to prevent it from moving elsewhere.

The reptile reportedly escaped from a local eco-tourism site. Authorities plan to capture it once water levels recede and the animal resurfaces.

On the morning of October 8, a man fishing in the Cho River was attacked by the crocodile after wading in to free a snagged hook. He sustained injuries to his arm and leg but managed to fight off the animal after a 10-minute struggle and reach a local medical station for treatment.
