According to an epidemiological investigation, the attacks took place between October 30 and November 2 in Phu Thanh Hamlet, Giao Long Commune, Vinh Long Province.
After the incidents, local residents worked with authorities to capture the dog. However, the animal died on the afternoon of November 2.
The provincial veterinary authority subsequently coordinated with local officials to collect samples from the dog and send them to the National Centre for Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing II for rabies testing.
Test results released on November 4 confirmed that the samples were positive for the rabies virus.
In response, authorities instructed the families of those bitten to take the victims to medical facilities for consultation and preventive treatment in accordance with regulations.
So far, eight of the nine victims have received rabies immunoglobulin and are continuing their prescribed treatment schedules.
Local authorities are working to persuade the remaining victim to cooperate with health officials and seek guidance on preventive measures and treatment.
