The War Remains Collection Team under the Nghe An Provincial Military Command has announced that by the end of February 2025, they had successfully recovered the remains of 46 Vietnamese soldiers and experts who perished in Laos.

The team was assigned the mission of locating and repatriating the graves of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who lost their lives in the Lao provinces of Xieng Khouang, Xaysomboun, and Vientiane during the 2024-2025 dry season.

After more than four months of searching, the team successfully located and retrieved the remains of 46 Vietnamese fallen soldiers and experts. Of these, 41 remains were recovered in Xieng Khouang Province, four in Xaysomboun Province, and one in Vientiane Province.

Once collected, the remains were respectfully transferred to the Memorial House dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives, located in Phonsavan Town, Xieng Khouang Province.

The team's officials highlighted the considerable challenges faced during the search and collection process. Laos' harsh climate and rugged terrain posed significant difficulties, as most burial sites were in high mountains, caves, and dense forests. The landscape has also undergone substantial changes, making access to these areas increasingly difficult. Information regarding the graves has also become scarce and scattered over vast areas.

Furthermore, the presence of unexploded ordnance has significantly hindered search and recovery efforts.

The team will continue strengthening diplomatic relations and community engagement in the coming time, encouraging residents to provide information about potential burial sites. This will allow for further verification and continued efforts in locating and recovering the remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers.
