The area around Han Market attracts thousands of domestic and international visitors daily for shopping and leisure. The stretch from Bach Dang and Tran Phu to Hung Vuong Street is often congested.
So, the Danang People's Committee have installed traffic lights and marked pedestrian crosswalks at the Bach Dang-Nguyen Thai Hoc and Bach Dang-Hung Vuong intersections near Han Market.
The pedestrian traffic lights include two signal poles with traffic lights, smart push buttons with countdown timers, and AI-powered cameras for counting vehicles and pedestrians. It also features a signal control cabinet and an information processing unit linked to the central system.
When pedestrians press a button on a pole, the camera captures the scene, AI counts the waiting pedestrians, and the light automatically turns on once the required conditions are met.
Nguyen Anh Thu, a tour guide in Da Nang, said the system makes it much easier for her to lead her clients across the streets.
Pedestrian signals have been installed on Tran Hung Dao Street near Dragon Bridge since 2016.
