Hanoi authorities have tasked the municipal Department of Planning and Architecture with collaborating with relevant agencies and the Ministry of Transport's Transport Engineering Design Inc. (TEDI) to explore implementation options for the project.
Hanoi People's Committee has approved the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture's proposal to construct the 49.52-kilometre road, of which 28.58 kilometres will pass through Hanoi. The remaining section will parallel the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Expressway and Tu Lien Bridge.
Hanoi and Bac Ninh authorities have agreed to study expanding urban space on both sides of the road.
Hanoi has also considered constructing a future metro route linking Gia Binh Airport.
The road and metro projects align with the 2030 Hanoi Master Plan, which includes a vision for 2050, and the revised master plan for Hanoi through 2045.
Construction of Gia Binh Airport began in December of last year. The airport will support flight operations, training, and combat readiness for the Vietnam People's Public Security Air Force.
