Electric tourist vehicles in Dalat
Dalat City Tour Company has operated 50 vehicles since 2018, while Tinh An Tourism Investment and Development Company has managed 25 vehicles since February 2 last year.
Under the government’s newly issued decree, from February 15, electric vehicles are only permitted to operate on roads with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h. However, no streets in Da Lat currently meet this requirement.
According to representatives of the two firms, the service halt would bring them numerous difficulties, including maintenance costs for idle vehicles and loan interest payments for vehicle investments.
Earlier, the Saigon Public Transport Co., Ltd which operates sightseeing vehicle service in HCM City also said that they might have to cease their service from February 15 as the new decree takes effect as no streets in the city have the 30 km/h speed limit signs.
The company said they had to cancel all bookings until June while waiting for further instructions from local authorities.
They have also proposed to local authorities to raise the speed limit to 50 km/h so the electric sightseeing vehicles can operate.
