Authorities in Danang City carry out the forced removal of seven food and souvenir kiosks located along the coastal Vo Nguyen Giap Street on May 7.

According to Huynh Van Hung, Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee, authorities had held multiple dialogues and issued official notices to the kiosk owners, but received no cooperation. As a result, enforcement measures were implemented in accordance with regulations.

The business owners were absent during the operation, though their belongings had been removed in advance.

Hung stated that the cleared land would be handed over to the Son Tra Peninsula and Danang Beaches Management Board, which will coordinate with relevant city departments to organise a public auction for commercial use in line with zoning regulations.

The kiosks were originally part of a 2012 pilot programme by the Danang city government to diversify tourism services at beach areas. Businesses participating in the programme signed agreements committing to dismantle their kiosks and return the land within 30 days upon notice of termination.

On May 8, 2024, the city issued a directive to end the pilot programme and proceed with land auctions for beachside commercial spaces. Subsequently, the management board held meetings and issued formal notices to affected business owners.

The voluntary dismantling and site clearance deadline was set for September 30, 2024. While three businesses complied, seven refused, prompting the district authorities to issue administrative penalties and enforcement orders.

Vo Nguyen Giap Street is a bustling coastal boulevard with hotels and luxury resorts.
