The Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam announced a recent meeting on public healthcare between the general secretary and senior officials from the government and central agencies.

General Secretary To Lam also directed that annual health check-ups be made mandatory for all citizens. He stressed the need for accelerating digital transformation across the healthcare system, including the rollout of electronic health records, e-medical profiles, and the integration and sharing of medical data nationwide.

At the National Assembly meeting on May 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underlined the government's commitment to strengthening preventive and grassroots healthcare services. He emphasised shifting the national healthcare focus from reactive treatment to proactive health management, as part of a broader strategy to achieve universal free healthcare.

At a government press briefing on May 6, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan stated that, based on calculations by the Ministry of Health, providing annual health check-ups for Vietnam's 100 million citizens, at an average cost of VND250,000 per visit, would require a total budget of approximately VND25 trillion (around USD1 billion) per year.
