Police in Quang Tri Province have charged six suspects in connection with an alleged food safety ring accused of purchasing, slaughtering and distributing pork from pigs infected with African swine fever (ASF).

The Quang Tri Provincial Police announced on July 19 that the six suspects had been prosecuted on charges of violating food safety regulations.
Those charged are Mai Van Quang, 53, and Ha Van Nghia, 48, both from Nga Son Commune, Thanh Hoa Province; and Tran Thi Ngoc Hien, 62, Hoang Thi Mong Truyen, 54, Truong Van Quoc, 53, and Tran Ngoc Bac, 55, all from Quang Tri Province.
According to investigators, the province's Economic Police Division uncovered a sophisticated criminal network involved in purchasing, transporting, slaughtering and selling pigs infected with African swine fever. Authorities subsequently launched a formal investigation under Case No. 0526H.
Preliminary findings indicate that between February and May, the group distributed more than 250 tonnes of ASF-infected pork onto the market.
Police said the investigation is continuing as authorities seek to determine the full scale of the operation and identify any additional individuals involved.
