The theme of this year’s competition was on mitigating the effect of natural disasters.
The architect Nguyen Hanh Nguyen was responsible for supervising the three-member group of students to make the design entitled “Disaster resistant village”.
The group of students who designed the village were, Dao Thanh Hai and Dang Ngoc Anh from the Hanoi University of Architecture, along with Nguyen Ha Thang from Phuong Dong University.
The model of the village features a residential area for low-income residents, which has mechanisms that would allow to survive natural disasters such as storms and floods.
The village was designed to be built on an area of land comprised of two islands. This is the sort of terrain where flooding might be expected. Among the many flood resistant features of the village, the homes were made to float, if necessary. The model could be used in many flood-prone areas.
