However, flooding caused by Typhoon Bualoi between September 29 and October 1 left six people dead or missing and submerged over 4,000 houses in Tuyen Quang. As many as 69 communes reported crop damage across nearly 3,000 hectares.
The suspension of the 2025 Thanh Tuyen Festival is aimed at mobilising all available resources for flood recovery and ensuring public safety. The Tuyen Quang People’s Committee will issue an official decision today,” according to a representative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This is the second consecutive year the Thanh Tuyen Festival has been cancelled due to flooding. Tuyen Quang also suspended the event last year to prioritise recovering from the severe impacts of Typhoon Yagi.
First held in 2004 and upgraded to a provincial-level celebration in 2014, the festival has since become a signature Mid-Autumn cultural event of Tuyen Quang.
The Thanh Tuyen Festival is regarded as the country’s largest and most unique Mid-Autumn celebration, holding several Guinness World Records, including the most extensive collection of lantern models, the largest Mid-Autumn feast, and the largest pair of lanterns in the nation.
