Vietnam's largest tourist hot-air balloon unveiled in Ca Mau

Vietnam's largest tourist hot-air balloon, standing about 28 metres tall and capable of carrying up to 12 people, was unveiled in Ca Mau Province on August 31.

The balloon made its debut at Hung Vuong Square in Bac Lieu Ward as part of the province's first Heritage Culture Day and Hot-Air Balloon Festival.

According to the Ca Mau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the balloon measures about 28 metres high and 22 metres in diameter, with a lifting capacity of 1.2-1.5 tonnes and room for 10-12 people per flight.

Technicians used high-powered fans and gas burners to inflate the balloon in just over 10 minutes.

Favourable weather allowed the balloon to take to the air above Hung Vuong Square, one of Ca Mau's two largest public squares, watched by provincial officials and local residents.

Local resident Thien Ly said seeing the giant balloon up close was a memorable experience, adding that she was impressed by the crowds drawn to the festival.

The provincial tourism department said the launch was a highlight of Ca Mau's first Heritage Culture Day and Hot-Air Balloon Festival in 2026.
