The fourth competitive evening of the Danang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF 2026) took place on June 20, featuring a head-to-head contest between Germany's Steffes-Ollig Feuerwerke GmbH & Co. KG and Macau's Apple Pyrotechnics Co., Ltd.
Despite adopting entirely different artistic approaches, both teams sought to push the boundaries of fireworks performance and visual storytelling.

Making its debut appearance at DIFF, Germany's Steffes-Ollig Feuerwerke presented a show titled Pyrographics.

Drawing on more than 150 years of pyrotechnic heritage, the German team showcased its strengths in structure, precision and the seamless synchronisation of music with every fireworks effect.

One of the highlights of the performance was the reflection of colourful fireworks across the Han River, creating striking graphic-like images on the water's surface.

In contrast, Macau's Apple Pyrotechnics opted for a cinematic narrative approach with a performance titled Celestial Journey to the West.

Inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, the Macau team guided audiences through a mythical adventure using a blend of orchestral music, electronic soundscapes and dreamlike fireworks effects.

The display featured fan-shaped fireworks and cascading golden effects that appeared to flow down towards the Han River.

"I was surprised and delighted to see a fireworks performance inspired by Journey to the West, a story that forms part of the childhood memories of many Vietnamese people," said Nguyen Minh Quan, a visitor from Hanoi.
"Both teams were outstanding. The fireworks were spectacular, the music was impressive and the overall experience was wonderful," he added.

While the German team won over spectators with precision, power and a modern performance philosophy, Macau captivated the audience through emotion, imagination and storytelling.
The contrasting styles provided one of the most memorable nights of DIFF 2026, highlighting the growing artistic diversity of the annual international event in Danang.
