Entrance fee at Hon Kho tourist site triggers backlash

The VND 80,000 (USD 3.14) entrance fee at Hon Kho, a popular tourist destination in Gia Lai Province, has stirred controversy.

The fee has been applied since August 4, including VAT and accompanying services such as travel insurance, reception, guidance, and destination information; use of beach umbrellas, sanitation services, and fresh water showers, among others.

Children under 0.75 metres in height and accompanied by a parent are exempt from the entrance fee.

The charge attracted thousands of shares and comments on social media. Most of the comments suggest that the fee was too high compared to the current level of investment at the Hon Kho tourist site.

Some suggest that the entrance should be free as it used to be, enabling visitors to come and local businesses to operate and pay taxes to the government. However, with the current ticket price, Hon Kho is losing its appeal to tourists.

A floating service provider in Hon Kho said that the VND 80,000 entrance fee is too high given the limited infrastructure, mainly sun shelters, freshwater showers, and basic restrooms.

A VND 40,000 ticket would be more appropriate. Any higher, and visitors may opt for alternatives like Ky Co or Eo Gio. This would not only hurt the investor’s interests but also negatively affect the local tourism economy as a whole.

Hon Kho, once known as Nhon Hai Commune in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh, is now part of Quy Nhon Dong Ward and offers visitors a unique and refreshing coastal experience.
