
Each fishing boat in Binh Chau Commune, with 3 to 7 crew members, can catch up to 500 kilos of acetes shrimp daily. Some boats haul in as much as two tonnes, earning up to VND30 million (USD1,183).

The acetes shrimp season often lasts from January to April.

Each acetes shrimp measures around 4-10 mm. The fishing zone is about four nautical miles from the shore, allowing boats to return the same day.

Each kilo of acetes shrimp is sold at some VND20,000.

Vo Duy Hai from Binh Chau Commune shared that acetes shrimp have appeared in dense swarms this year, guaranteeing a plentiful catch for every boat.

His boat alone can haul 1 to 1.5 tonnes of acetes shrimp daily, earning between VND20-30 million.

Dozens of small boats arrive at Chau Thuan Bien Beach, each carrying baskets brimming with acetes shrimp.

Freshly caught, bright red acetes shrimp are swiftly hauled from the boats to the shore, where they are sold to traders.

The acetes shrimp season also offers a steady income for many women onshore. Those working as shrimp carriers can make between VND200,000 and VND300,000 per day.

Traders purchase fresh Acetes shrimp and transport them to processing facilities, where they are dried to make dried or fermented shrimp paste. Approximately 3 kg of fresh shrimp produces 1 kg of dried shrimp.
Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chairman of the Binh Chau Fisheries Association, states that as many as 40 local boats do acetes shrimp fishing.
