Danang street food vendor accused of overcharging

A group of Lao tourists reported being overcharged by a roadside street vendor when buying grilled food.

A social media post went viral on the evening of July 13, accusing a street vendor in front of 5 Duong Dinh Nghe Street in An Hai Ward of overcharging a group of Laotian tourists for street snacks.

The group ordered four octopus skewers, two okra skewers, chicken feet, and three sausages and were initially charged VND 760,000 (USD 29.80). After questioning the price, they were refunded VND 200,000, paying VND 560,000 in total.

The group's tour guide confirmed he made the post, saying he was upstairs at the time. When he came back down, a guest asked if the prices seemed too high.

"When I got there, the vendor assumed I was a Laotian tourist and showed me a calculator with VND 760,000 on it. I objected, and they refunded VND 200,000. There was no price list displayed, and when I asked, they handed me a piece of paper with a few vague figures."

According to him, items like grilled sausage and okra typically cost around VND 10,000 per skewer at many places in Danang.

"I've worked in Danang for three years, and this is the first time I've seen something like this. I've submitted a complaint to the city's feedback portal and hope the authorities will take swift action," he added.

The area in front of 3 and 5 Duong Dinh Nghe Street, located near Vo Nguyen Giap Street and Bie Dong Park, often attracts many foreign visitors.
