Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has activated response plans to minimise disruption to flight operations and protect air traffic facilities and equipment.
Weather forecasts show the tropical depression could affect airspace managed by the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City area control centres, as well as operations at several northern airports.
From August 20 to 22, a combination of the intertropical convergence zone and the southwest monsoon is expected to bring convective clouds, thunderstorms and other hazardous weather to parts of the airspace managed by the Hanoi Area Control Centre.
The Aviation Meteorological Centre said Cat Bi, Van Don, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan and Vinh airports could be affected by showers, thunderstorms, gusty winds and reduced visibility in the coming days.
Air traffic control units have been instructed to closely monitor forecasts and warnings and adjust operations as needed to ensure flight safety.
VATM has also ordered its units to maintain round-the-clock staffing, secure facilities and technical equipment, and prepare for worsening weather.
Air traffic management units are preparing for aircraft to avoid hazardous weather, change routes or divert to alternate airports if necessary.
The Air Traffic Flow Management Centre will monitor affected routes and coordinate measures to minimise congestion and holding, particularly at airports exposed to adverse weather.
VATM said communications and technical systems would also be closely monitored to ensure safe and uninterrupted air traffic operations.
