Nguyen Van Troi and Hoang Van Thu Streets in Phu Nhuan District and Cong Hoa and Truong Chinh Streets in Tan Binh District always see dense traffic daily between 7-9 am and 5-7 pm.
Many buses and cars use motorbike lanes, and motorbikes use pavements, worsening traffic problems.
Traffic police are sent to direct the traffic flows during rush hours. They sometimes have to close traffic on the lane leading to the city centre to ease congestion.
Speaking with Dantri/Dtinews on November 17, a resident, Nguyen Van Minh, said it usually takes him one or two hours to travel the 12 kilometre-way from his company home on these streets.
"The situation is often worse when it rains, and more people use cars," Minh said. "I'm tired of the traffic here."
An officer from the Tan Son Nhat Airport Traffic Police Unit said that traffic is usually worse during the year-end when air travel and transportation of goods increase. More people are also attending year-end parties at restaurants in the area, which adds to the problem. In response, the police have sent more officers to help control traffic flow.
To solve the problem, the city is building a road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets, which is expected to open early next year.
