Danang pavements overrun by businesses

Businesses have illegally encroached on many pavements in the central city of Danang.

Stalls have encroached on the pavements along both sides of streets like Khuc Hao, Bui Duong Lich, Ngo Van So, and Nam Cao, leaving pedestrians with no option but to walk on the road.

Many people have to walk or exercise along the road, posing dangers.

Eateries and pubs place tables and chairs directly on pavements, obstructing traffic.

Danang's authorities previously identified pedestrian pathways on local streets. However, while many business households initially co-operated and supported the move, the encroachment on the pavements has reoccurred.

Pavement violations have also occurred in Hanoi and HCM City.

HCM City has piloted pavement rental fees for 11 streets in District 1 from May 9. Rented pavement must ensure at least 1.50 metres of space for pedestrians, while roads must allow at least two one-way car lanes.
