Many trips for students in Hanoi have been cancelled after a student and parent recently died when visiting a national park.

Last Saturday, a group of students and parents from a school in Hanoi visited Xuan Thuy National Park in the northern province of Nam Dinh.

While students were catching oysters on the sand, they were swept away by rising tides. As a result, a student and a parent died.

As the summer holiday comes, parent associations often hold outdoor trips for their students. However, the Xuan Thuy National Park incident has worried many parents this year, so there have been several cancellations.

A woman whose child is studying at a primary school in Nam Tu Liem District said that her child’s class cancelled going camping in Hanoi’s suburbs for safety reasons.

Parents in the class agreed to work out a code of safety regulations for their students’ field trips in the coming time.

Parent association member Nguyen Thi Hang from My Dinh Ward said her daughter’s class readjusted the plan of a trip to Hanoi’s Soc Son District after the accident at Xuan Thuy National Park. Initially, the schedule included activities at a swimming pool, but this was removed.

According to Hang, it is better to carefully consider all factors of a trip such as the destination and schedule than suddenly cancel it just because of an accident. Students wait with anticipation for the trips when the school year ends.
