Nguyen Thi Cam, 55, has just brought her 25-year-old son Tran Van Dien home from hospital. Dien has recently undergone a life-saving operation after a serious traffic accident and is now getting physical therapy and acupuncture.

 

The poor woman said that her husband Tran Van Len, 58, had a stroke while working on a farm in 2017 and has been bedridden for many years.

"My husband has just been able to walk again this year, but then my son had the accident," she said. "We've been unable to find any more money to continue treatment for them as we already owe nearly VND200 million (USD8,162)."

Cam shared that it currently costs VND15 million a month for her son's treatment, but they have run out of savings and do not have any income.

"I've had to take care of my son while some relatives come to help take care of my husband," she said. "I hope to receive some support to continue my son’s treatment."

Speaking about Dieu's situation, vice chairman of Que Hiep Commune People's Committee, Bui Van Hai, said that her family was facing lots of difficulties.

"The local authorities and people have also provided some support but they need more help as the treatment for her son would be long and costly," Hai said.
